You know what you want to do, you have everything laid out in your thoughts, you went through 10 simulations in your head. All that is left for you to do is to put your thoughts into action.
But something stops you, and you end up not actually making it happen.
Why so? Why is taking action so hard?
I believe that we all have the one little thing in mind that we really want to make happen, it is a plan of yours. But it is hard to put it into action. Here, I am not talking about procrastination where you push off the work that needs to be done. I am talking about a fear that stops you from going forward. I mean the actions that you should be doing to make your life healthier and achieve the dream you want.
We tend to live within routines that feel safe, predictable, and easy. This comfort zone is hard to leave because it’s… well, comfortable! The one thing that we can do while staying in our comfort zone is to be inspired and to dream. Being inspired is the easy part, where you feel motivated and plan to do so. The truth is, it’s taking the leap that’s the hard part.
What Really Stops Us from Taking Action?
We are sometimes scared that our actions would not work out and I would just be seen as foolish. We are often scared of what people would think of me if my actions don’t go through as planned. Our brain can sometimes be a little devil convincing you to stick with the safer option than going out there.
As mentioned in my previous blog, be vulnerable, let yourself be seen. That is the only way to develop and live the life you dreamt of. Once you put yourself out there the actions would no longer be uncomfortable. There is a popular saying in korean that says “인간은 적응의 동물이다” which means humans can adapt to anything.
Here is an audio that I felt real inspired by:
“Imagine when you’re older and your grandkids are like “Oh, tell me about when you were younger.”
And you are like “awh but I didn’t really do much, cause I was worried about what people thought of me, didn’t think about going running and jumping in the sea because I was worried about what my body looked like. I didn’t even try and apply for the dream jobs because I didn’t think I was good enough.”
You will sound silly.”
At the end of the day, I do not know what actions you wish to take and what is stopping you from it. Whether that is actions is related to academics, relationships, or just having fun.
The real way to cope is to know why you aren’t taking action.
